Video Project:
Project Description-
In this project, we worked really hard to get a head start on the video over Spring Break. We took a lot of pictures and videos so that we could pick and choose which clips and stills we could/wanted to use. One resource that was especially helpful throughout this project was the rubric. If we didn’t have the rubric, our project would have been very random. It was helpful because all of the things on the rubric were things that help a video to be more engaging. Also, the rubric helped us to be prepared and organized. It helped us figure out what pieces of video to use where, as well as what we needed to include for the transitions to be smooth and for the video to make sense. Overall, the rubric was one of many resources that we used that helped our project to be more clearly organized and smooth.
Reflection Questions-
1. What is old, and what is new in any work of art?
In my mind there is no such thing as an old work of art. I think all art can be appreciated by the majority of the audience whether or not the artwork is from their time. Yes someone might relate better to a piece of art that was created years ago versus the first cave paintings but no matter what I think we can all appreciate all types of art and there is no such thing as “old” and “new” art.
2. How is art used in everyday life?
Art is everywhere no matter where you look. I guess it depends on the person's perspective but really anything can be perceived as art. So in all reality everything you use in everyday life can be considered art.
3. How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication?
When creating art, in most cases the artist is trying to communicate an idea. We have all heard the phrase “an image is worth a thousand words.” Even though it might be redundant clique in most art it is true. When viewing a piece of art the person can see it as just some paint on a page but others can perceive it as an entire message.
4. How does Material Culture influence artistic decisions?
It think no matter what a person is doing their decision is going to be influenced by the environment around them or by the current social culture. These days art is less on a 2D surface and more realistic which is a direct result of the growing city and culture.
5. Why do Artists Produce Preliminary Plans? (sketches, brainstorms, storyboards, etc?)
Using a preliminary plan allows the artist to refine and add to the work of art instead of just jumping into it blindly. Also it allows for ideas to build up over a long span of time. For instance if someone had a minor idea they could create a brainstorm and come back to it much later.

Pre Historic Art History Drawings:
Project Description
To begin this project we were given a lesson on prehistoric art and its evolution over time. Throughout the lesson we learned everything from the first examples of cave art all the way up to sculptures with meaning. Some of the first art ever recorded was in caves so we starting drawing cave art. To to improve our drawing skills we put the sketch into a program called Adobe Illustrator. In illustrator we got to trace our image and mess with the threshold to make it look more realistic or add abstract effects. When using the image trace tool it allowed me to make my drawing more refined. In the original image you can tell it was hand drawn by the white space in the stroke and the grey element in the stroke. Once I used the image trace tool I was able to make the strokes black and also make the fill black. This gave a completed look and tied together the whole piece. In the future I would love to use illustrator for drawings that I have to make it look more refined. Also being able to add color to the drawing so quickly is very helpful for me.

Project Reflection
With the finished product, I do believe I met most of the project objectives. Through my cartoon I show exaggeration with the man killing the orca whale with spears. I also made sure the drawing related back to ancient Rome which is shown by the coliseum-like stadium. The message that is being shown is the murder that Seaworld is doing every time they bring an animal into captivity. This is saying that Seaworld is jeopardizing animals lives for entertainment which the Roman’s use to do in old ceremonies. This ties the two together showing we are really not that far away from this extreme. Sharing information artistically can be one of the most powerful ways of getting your point across. Just like the saying and image can say 1,000 words, by making a political cartoon it is easy to say a message without physically saying it. If you look at some of the most famous art pieces, none of them have words. But when viewing art like this it is sometimes very hard to get the full message. On the other hand when creating art it is easy to try and show your message through different symbols or metaphors that another person might now fully take away from the art.
Self Portrait:
Artist Statement:
In this project I decided to make my photo into a puzzle. As you can see a puzzle is overlaid on top of the original image creating an illusion that it is a puzzle. Then I took multiple pieces out of the image to represent that I am not done putting myself together. Some of the lines between the white and the puzzle are rough edges, this represents how the white is blurring into the puzzle taking away the sharpness and defined edges of my life.
Landscape Project:
Reflection:
Before we started this project I had very little photoshop experience. Now I have some basic skills which allowed me to complete this project. The skill that gave me the most knowledge was how to use proportion to place certain objects either in the foreground, middle ground, or background. Foreground is the objects that appear closest in an image and that are in focus. Towards the middle ground objects ten to loose more definition and color. In the background all clarity is lost and the colors and objects seem to blend together. I also learned most of the selection tools and all their different purposes. I used to think that the tools all did basically the same thing, but know i know otherwise. I am very excited to start learning new things in photoshop in the next project.

Name Project:
This project took photos from outside that looked like letters in my name. I combined them into my name by resizing and refining the images.
Teacher Creature Project:
Project Reflection: The first step I took was to gather all the images that I needed for the project such as Matt's teacher picture and all the layers I wanted. Next I looked up certain tutorials that would help me complete my project, such as text tutorials and basic tools. Once I added all the layers, I made sure all the elements of the rubric were accounted for and added things that weren't. Then I added the last refining of the edges and then the project was complete. The hardest part of the project was deciding which pieces of Matt's face to add to the krill to make it look like the two were merged together. Also, making the beard bled into the krill's face was very challenging. To work through the problem, I feathered the beard and erased certain parts of the beard to make it look more realistic. My favorite part of the project was in the finishing touches of the project when everything was coming together. Also when we had to watch the text and photoshop tutorials. I really enjoyed watching all the different tutorials and seeing everything that you can do in Photoshop instead of having it being taught by a teacher. I learned that in a short amount of time I can get the most done in a crunched time manner. Since I have never worked with photoshop before, it was a good experience and I learned a lot. So overall this project was really fun for me.
